Mother's Cradle

My muse for this piece was my mother; a very strong woman who bore and cared for me and my six siblings. It wasn’t something I truly appreciated until i saw her care for two sets of twins, the four youngest siblings after me. Despite her petite and feminine physique, she seemed to carry both babies with complete ease; one in each arm. When I tried to do the same, I immediately began to struggle with the weight. I imagined that the maternal love she held for her babies gave her an almost supernatural strength and endurance to carry her children for long periods of time. This piece is meant to represent the strength of a mother and a mothers willingness to endure pain to keep her children protected and cradled with love. Mixed Media 20.5x5x4
