Collection: Naranjo, Kay

Kay Naranjo is one of the newest additions to the artists residing in Placitas, NM.  She spent over 35 years working in finance and accounting positions in Washington, DC and here in New Mexico.  Her last position before retiring in 2020 was Controller for the largest hospital system servicing Northern New Mexico.  The timing of her retirement had her going from working 60 hours a week to being shut up in her house at the start of the pandemic.  It didn’t take her long to find a creative outlet to keep her busy during the transition from work to leisure.  After studying and practicing mandala rock techniques, she transferred what she learned to larger and more picturesque images concentrating on her southwest favorites.  She found that her “accounting brain” was perfect for creating organization and presentation on a rock – and her newly mastered mandala dotting techniques added depth and dimension to her work.  She has painted and resined over 800 rocks to date and you can find her work being enjoyed and displayed all over the United States.
