Collection: Sarah Blumenschein

Specializing in pastels, Sarah Blumenschein is drawn to the medium’s immediate color and layering capabilities. While she enjoys landscapes, her primary focus is still life, where she masterfully captures the play of light on reflective surfaces like glass or china to create the illusion of three dimensions on a two-dimensional surface. Flowers are a favorite subject, whether as part of a still life or as found in nature. With each painting, Sarah says she seeks to translate complex emotions into color and shape, aiming to inspire a sense of joy and happiness in every viewer.

Sarah makes her home in Albuquerque, N.M. Many are surprised to learn that while creating art was always her first passion, she ended up earning a degree in industrial engineering and spent 14 years working in the industry before retiring to raise children and pursue her art full time.

Since entering her first exhibition in 2003, she has garnered prestigious international recognition, including the Grand Prize in the Pastel Journal’s Pastel 100 and multiple “Best of Show” awards. She holds Master Circle status with the International Association of Pastel Societies and Signature status with the Pastel Society of America.
