Collection: Belitz, Monique

Born on a houseboat in Utrecht and raised near Munich, this artist’s global journey eventually led her to New Mexico, inspired by a transformative visit to the Taos Pueblo. After teaching art at Lane Community College in Oregon, she relocated to Albuquerque to earn an MFA in Painting and Drawing and an MA in Art History from the University of New Mexico. Her academic career culminated as an Assistant Professor at Doane University, where she led numerous community projects before retiring in 2018 to pursue her passion for landscape painting in the high desert of Lama.

Now a full-time artist and gardener, she has participated in over 150 solo and group exhibitions internationally, including recurring shows at the Albuquerque Museum and the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos. Her work is celebrated for its deep connection to the land and is represented by several regional institutions, including the Wilder Nightingale Fine Art gallery and Weems Gallery and Framing.
