About the Role
Weems Gallery is seeking a dynamic, highly organized Gallery Manager to lead sales and retail operations, and support the continued success of our established fine art gallery. This role offers the opportunity to partner closely with gallery leadership on exhibitions, artist relations, and strategic development, while maintaining the high standards and relationships that define the gallery. The Manager oversees daily gallery operations, a small team of gallery associates, and acts as the primary point of contact for the gallery’s roster of artists. This role is perfect for an individual who finds professional fulfillment in building great relationships with clients, nurturing the careers of contemporary artists, and managing small teams.
This is a full-time position that requires physical presence during gallery hours (including Saturdays) and for key events and art fairs as needed.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee daily gallery operations and ensure a welcoming, professional environment
- Build and maintain strong relationships with artists, collectors, and clients
- Manage art sales, client communications, and follow-through
- Manage small team of gallery associates
- Coordinate exhibitions, including logistics, installation, and events
- Oversee inventory management, art displays, records, and gallery systems
- Collaborate closely on exhibition planning and gallery programming with Gallery leadership
Requirements & Qualifications
- Professional Experience: 5+ years of experience in a commercial gallery, auction house, or arts organization, with at least 2 years in a management or senior operational capacity
- Passion: Must demonstrate enthusiasm and serious interest in contemporary and fine art
- Educational Background: BA in Business, Arts Leadership, or a related field
- Business Acumen: Professional presence and confidence in client-facing and high-value sales environments. Very comfortable with enterprise collaboration software (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, social media platforms), and digital retail software or high-capacity for learning it (Shopify, etc.)
- Leadership Style: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enjoyment of collaborating as a team, and creative problem-solving
- Communication: High verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to represent the gallery at a high level to collectors and institutions. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 30lbs
- Must be comfortable climbing ladders and stepstools safely
- Requires standing for long periods of time
Schedule
- This position is full-time, 40+ hours per week
- Saturdays required
Compensation and Benefits
- $40,000 - $45,000 base annual salary + commission
