The Secret Life of Sunflowers” written by Marta Molnar is the inspiration for this painting. The book tells the story of Johanna Bonger, Vincent van Gogh’s sister-in-law. Johanna inherited many of Vincent van Gogh’s paintings. She was a 28-year-old widow with a baby in the 1800’s, without any means of support. Yet she managed to introduce Vincent’s legacy to the world. I have always loved how Vincent van Gogh included sunflowers in many of his paintings. This grand flower danced in my head as I painted. And this book brings to life the struggles not only of Vincent, but the lives he touched with his artwork. Acrylic 16x16 Frame: 17.5x17.5
