Katie Thomas Works

Katie Thomas is originally from Connecticut. After obtaining a degree in biology and spending many years working in the medical field, she pursued post graduate studies in management and human resources. Her corporate HR career spanned many years in Albuquerque in various industries including manufacturing, banking, distribution and consulting.

In 2007, she relocated to Taos, NM from Albuquerque for an HR job. That position went away in 2009 and having relocated to a rural community with limited opportunities, she bought a small retail store called The Import Outlet. With no retail experience in a recessive year, she renamed the shop Moxie. She pursued fair trade vendors and products, while developing her interest in her own art. In 2022, after 13 successful years and surviving through Covid, she sold the business to her employee, who continues to operate a great store in Taos.

She has since relocated to Placitas to be closer to heath care, an airport and four grandchildren. She now spends her time creating mixed media art in many mediums including clay, paper, paint, textiles, beading, wood, rusty found items ….and whatever comes next!
