Mary Goforth Works

Mary Goforth

A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mary Beth paints in both oils & pastels. Her earliest artistic endeavors began in childhood with charcoal & newsprint. She sold her first painting when she was twelve years old.
In 1981, Mary Beth, her husband & first son moved to northern California where her second son was born. Having children required a medium that was fast to put away & little fingers could not get into. So the oils were put aside & she started painting in pastels.

In California, Mary Beth joined the Delta Art League & started entering shows in which she won awards. In 1993, when Mary Beth & her family moved back to Albuquerque, she joined the Pastel Society of New Mexico & the Rio Grande Art Association. Mary Beth wants her paintings to reflect the thrill she gets in seeing the animals & the joy she finds in painting them. She also likes to convey a mood & imply a sense of movement & spirit of each animal she paints. Mary Beth is basically a self-taught artist. However, she gives much credit to a Junior High teacher & the few years she studied with Lou Maestas of Art Masters.
